Did you know you have a soul?

In this blog, we are going to look in-depth about the soul. This will help us to understand the reality of how God wants us to live and how we can live such a life.

The soul is defined as such:

The spiritual or immaterial part of a human being regarded as immortal.

It is the immaterial part of a human being that is within the body. The soul is the part of a person we refer to when we call someone by name as it is the place of decision. The soul will be judged in the day of judgement as it is the place of conscious decision.

The soul has three parts in it that together make it functional in a human being.

  1. Mind

  2. Emotion and

  3. Will

WHAT IS IT?

The soul in human beings is where decision takes place. The soul is a gift from God but often overlooked. Having a clear understanding of the soul is essential. This is made possible by understanding its 3 parts- mind, emotion and will. The 3 parts of the soul are the places from which we process all information that comes into the brain. These are also the criterion based on which we live our lives.

MIND

Mind is defined as such:

The element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought.

Or

A person’s ability to think and reason; the intellect.

The mind enables us to think and perceive the information that comes into the body via the 5 senses of the body. The mind is the immaterial part that is associated with the brain. It is the origin of reason, intellect and understanding ability. learning in schools is for the mind, not for the brain. We naturally process all information in the mind. We live our lives on the basis of mind, emotion and will.

EMOTION

Emotion is defined as such:

Instinctive or intuitive feeling as distinguished from reasoning or knowledge.

Emotion is the feeling we get when we experience any situation. When we undergo a tragic situation we feel sadness. When we go through betrayal, we feel anger and bitterness. When we eat some food we like or spend time with people we love, we feel happiness, joy and excitement. We live our lives on the basis of mind, emotion and will.

WILL

Will is defined as such:

Expressing desire, consent, or willingness.

Will is the immaterial place of decision in a human being. It is the origin of desires, likings and willingness. The will (or we) usually makes choices based on what we know and what we feel. This might not always be right, as humans don’t know everything and do not always feel happy about doing the right things in life.

The soul has yet another very important job to do- accepting Jesus as the saviour of one’s life. Salvation is a choice we make willingly in the soul. The holy spirit is the one working to lead us into salvation, but it is the soul(or you) of a person that needs to make this decision. When we make this decision, Jesus comes inside of us and dwells within us.

When we say that Jesus Christ is the lord and saviour of our lives, we receive salvation from sin, shame, sickness, guilt, death and all other effects of sin. At that moment, the Holy Spirit puts a seal in our hearts and will come inside of us. He will revive our spirit to life and make us a new creation. In that moment we are born again into the family of God.

If you haven’t accepted Jesus as the saviour of your life, then pray along;

Jesus, I believe that you are my saviour who came to the earth and died for my sins on the cruel cross. I believe that you rose from the grave as you defeated sin and death. I confess my sins and acknowledge that I am a sinner. I ask of you to come into my heart and dwell within me. I want to be your child and be a part of your heavenly family. I ask this in the name of the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
