1. SPIRIT PRAYS THROUGH TONGUES
For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.1 CORINTHIANS 14:14
The spiritual language of prayer is ‘tongues’. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we get this gift of ‘tongues’. Why is this so important? It is important as it edifies us and builds up our spirit. Our spirit communicates with God through this language. We don’t always understand it, but it is definitely effective. Praying in the spirit is better than praying in our human language, as we pray the perfect will of God. We pray for the future we didn’t account for. We pray for the right things and not the things we think is right.
2. WORD DIVIDES SOUL FROM SPIRIT
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.HEBREWS 4:12
Have you heard two different voices in your head about the same situation? Have you given thought to what they are? More importantly, have you ever wondered which one to listen to? That’s where the word of God plays an important role. The word of God is the differentiating factor that enables us to make the difference between the voice of our soul and spirit. It enables us to lean on the spirit in times of decision and choice to do the will of God. I have experienced this first hand and definitely recommend prioritizing the word of God above all. When you have more of the word of God, you have more of Jesus, as He is a living word. Walking by the word of God helps us walk in the spirit with ease.
3. BODY WITHOUT SPIRIT IS DEAD
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.JAMES 2:26
The spirit is the life-giving component of the tripartite. It was breathed into Adam in the garden of Eden.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.GENESIS 2:7

4. MAN’S SPIRIT KNOWS THE DEEP THOUGHTS
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 1 CORINTHIANS 2:10,11
Our subconscious is deeply linked with our spirit. Our spirit knows everything about us and there is not a single strand of memory that we have experienced that our spirit cannot access. Have you experienced the Holy Spirit helping you remember some long-forgotten memories to help you deal with some situation in the present? That is possible because our spirit has access to our deepest thoughts. We don’t always have access to those deeper memories and thoughts from the brain, but our spirit does. When we have the Holy Spirit in us, He makes the most use of this ability of the spirit to lead us to the will of God.
5. ONE SPIRIT WITH GOD
But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him 1 CORINTHIANS 6:17
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children ROMANS 8:16
Spiritual communication is possible only through our spirit. This is the main reason why God has put this beautiful component in us. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior by faith, we are made right and one with God. When we are one with God we have access to all the things that God has, as we are His children. We can pray in the spirit against evil spiritual forces working against us because we are one with the Spirit of God.
